Paula
Hanke has been teaching yoga for over ten years. Her initial 200 Hr.
Yoga Teacher Training was with Diana
Treglia, founder of Spectrum Yoga and Yoga Director of the Exercise
Studio in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
"I'm drawn to an eclectic style of teaching yoga. There isn't any
one right approach to asana. It's about exploring yoga as one hopes
to explore life, with an open mind, fully conscious, experiencing
the moment. What works for one student, may not work for another
student. And for that matter, what works for someone one day, may
not be the best approach the next day."
"In reference to teaching yoga in a chair, it was quickly apparent
to me that there was an enthusiastic interest and need to have the
benefits of yoga presented to the older adult and those who sit
at their computers most of the day, in a safe, non-threatening way."
Having taught in Brooklyn and most recently in the Mid-Hudson Valley
of NY Paula said,"Half of the yoga classes I teach in any given
week are Chair Yoga classes. The students are so appreciative of
the improvement in their flexibility and well-being. And they give
so much back to me."
Paula
is Nationally Certified with a 500 Hr. Advanced Yoga Teacher Training
through the Kripalu Yoga Center
that is recognized by Yoga
Alliance. She is also Nationally Certified as a Foot Reflexologist
and Reiki Master.
Another
integral facet of Paula is her life-long experience as a Professional
Singer/Musician. She has made her living performing and traveling
since the age of 18. Her musical roots took shape in her home- town
of Kiel, Wisconsin singing, playing the piano, alto sax and flute
in any school event and music festival possible. "For a small town,
we had many opportunities to develop our skills." Her professional
experience includes industrials, reviews and bands throughout the
U.S., Virgin Is., Bermuda, Saudi Arabia, Munich and Tokyo. Paula
wrote and recorded all of the music on 'Chair
Yoga for a Vital Life.'
"Learning and growing as a spiritual being is my life journey. Teaching
is a direct expression of that," Paula said. Having made her home
in the Mid-Hudson Valley of N.Y. for the past 6 years, Paula practices
Buddhist Meditation with the Budding
Flower Sangha in the tradition of the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh.
What's
next? "I am starting yet another new chapter in the adventure of
life exploring the Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada region to perhaps
plant some new roots in the desert soil."
